Have your say at Connected Town, Cleator Moor event

Local residents, community groups and businesses are being invited to attend a Cleator Moor Town Deal engagement event on Tuesday 30 July.

The public event will be held between 3pm and 6.30pm at the Cleator Moor Civic Hall and Masonic Centre, The Square.

The plans for the Connected Town, part of the Cleator Moor Town Deal, will be on display with officers from Cumberland Council on hand to answer questions.

There will also be the opportunity to take part in a consultation and have your say.

Connected Town encourages more walking and cycling in and around Cleator Moor, improving accessibility and also enhancing gateways into the town.

The project will better connect Cleator Moor to employment, education and health provision beyond the town, while also enhancing the perception and character of the town as an innovative and dynamic place to live, work and visit.

As part of the proposals, seven locations across the town have been highlighted as areas where money could be invested in new or improved paths for cyclists and pedestrians.

They are: Mill Hill to the Leconfield Industrial Estate; Leconfield Industrial Estate to Birks Road; Town Square frontage; Aldby Grove to the east of Wath Brow Junction; Market Square to Cleator Mills link; the Leconfield to Activity Centre link and the Leconfield Industrial Estate links.

The Connected Town project also includes proposed improvements to three road junctions; Wath Brow the Bowthorn Road/Whitehaven Road junction and the Leconfield junction.

And there are plans to enhance gateways into Cleator Moor – the main entry points by road – to provide a positive first experience for people travelling into the town.

More than 3.5km of walking and cycling routes will be enhanced as part of the project.

Connected Town is one of four projects that make up the Cleator Moor Town Deal.

Cleator Moor Town Deal secured an award of £22.5m from the Government’s Towns Fund along with an additional £18.4m from match funders.

Bob Metcalfe, Chair of the Cleator Moor Town Deal Board, said:

“The ambitious schemes for Cleator Moor are moving forward and will provide sustainable developments for the benefit of the whole town.

“Our engagement event is an opportunity to find out more about the Connected Town project and to have your say on the proposals.”
