Outline illustration showing ambitious Enterprise hub revealed

A SERIES of illustrations showing an exciting new look for a redeveloped Leconfield Industrial Estate have been revealed for the first time.

Enterprising Town is one of five projects that make up the Cleator Moor Town Deal which secured an offer of £22.5 million from the Government’s Towns Fund last year.

It will see the redevelopment of the existing industrial estate to provide employment and training opportunities for residents in Cleator Moor as well as helping to diversify the local economy.

The proposal would create new buildings on site including an Enterprise Campus Hub as well as the refurbishment of existing units.

It would also add extensive landscaping to increase biodiversity on site by 10 per cent while improving public areas and creating new cycle and footpaths to connect the site with wider areas of Cleator Moor.

Bob Metcalfe, chair of the Cleator Moor Town Deal Board, said: “The Enterprising Town project is Phase 1 of the Leconfield Redevelopment, transforming the existing site to help strengthen and diversify the West Cumbria economy for many years to come.

“The project will also act as a catalyst for growth, unlocking further investment from strategic partners in the region as well as job opportunities for Cleator Moor residents.”

The illustrations are on show as part of a two day drop in at Cleator Moor Civic Hall on Tuesday, March 15 (2pm-8pm) and Wednesday March 16 (10am-5pm).

Members of the public are invited to attend to find out more about the project and share their views. A planning application is expected to be submitted later this month.

All five of the proposed Cleator Moor Town Deal projects aim to help maximise inclusive economic growth and better connectivity for the area while developing a contemporary “campus town” with world-class companies in a range of sectors and expanded cultural and leisure provision.

Detailed business cases in support of each project are in development with high level summaries expected to be submitted back to Government this summer.
